The Story

We’re bringing you several updates as we head into the final stretch of the school year.

Academically…

The third quarter has officially closed! Woohoo! Grades closed for students last Friday and teachers have until this Wednesday to put in grades. And now for the most intense part of the year when everyone is burnt out but still has exams and finals etc. We’re almost to summer! Well, kind of.

Spiritually…

This week is spirit week at BHS. We’re not really sure what is up with this placement – it seems like a kind of random choice. Monday is ‘Merica Monday, Tuesday is Country vs. Country Club Day, Wednesday is Jersey Day, Thursday is Middle School Day, and Friday is Class Colors Day. There’s no pep rally on Friday and there’s no big homecoming game or dance of any sort. So again, kind of random. But it’s happening so show your school spirit we guess?

Transportationally…

Starting after April break, there will be a new traffic pattern at the BHS/RAL campus. We don’t have a whole lot of information about it yet, but we know that the flow will be reversed, so cars will move counterclockwise around the building instead of clockwise. Buses will load in front of the Lurgio and parents will pick up at the back side of the building. This should theoretically help with the major traffic problems on Nashua Road and County Road during pick-up/drop-off times.

Principally…

Mr. Jozokos sent out a concise email to students yesterday with some brief updates. The courtyard is still tragically closed because it is still too wet (can gosh-darn Mother Nature make up her mind??) And the patio will open soon, on one condition: people stop making a mess of the Commons, which you would think would be easy enough (stop throwing food please?!). Jozo also urged students to be respectful of local businesses in town earlier in the week and reminded students of the “see something, say something” philosophy, which was slightly concerning and a bit out of left field. But nonetheless, we enjoy our regular emails from the principal.

The Runaway

There are a lot of miscellaneous, but important things going on right now. Very exciting, we know.

What to Say…

When your luck has run out…

Does the name Theodore Luckey ring any bells? Well if it does, we have updates – and if it doesn’t, don’t worry, we’ll catch you up. Luckey was the talk of the town around August of last year after his killing spree burst the peaceful little Bedford bubble. He was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of a 28-year-old and a 60-year-old man at the Country Inn & Suites (more commonly known in slang as the ‘Target machete murders’) as well as being a felon found in possession of deadly weapons. Luckey’s past records weren’t so clean either: he had been released from prison a few months prior in May after serving 10 years and pleading guilty to multiple charges including kidnapping (sounds like a real nice guy). This time around he changed his mind and even with family members of the victims present at the court hearing, this New Jersey native criminal remains behind bars without bail as he pleaded not guilty to all charges. Sounds like Thoeodre’s last name is a real misnomer as Luckey isn’t so lucky anymore.

When you’re feeling active…

Spring sport tryouts have come to an end and it is time for the real season to begin! From the baseball players who have never played in the rain to the track athletes who only seem to run in the rain, spring sports are sure to be quite eventful. Between competing for an open field, bus transportations, weather, and other schools, these athletes are gonna have their work cut out for them. Spring Meet the Coaches night is tonight at 6 o’clock in the BHS theater. This week, the baseball, boys lacrosse, and girls lacrosse teams have a few scrimmages – real games start next week. Needless to say, we’re excited to have active competition to cover.

When you’re feeling a little sniffly…

Ha. Haha. You thought we were in the clear of COVID, didn’t you? Well, your favorite worldwide, life-stopping, quarantine-inducing, global crisis-causing disease is back and more than ever screaming “PSYCH!”. Just when we thought we had shaken the last of Omicron, and began lifting mask mandates nationwide, Omicron’s rebellious little sister, Omicron BA.2 decided she needed some time to shine. Luckily for us, the new variant seems to be quite tame compared to its older sister, Omicron (who was notoriously contagious) and eldest brother Delta, (who was notoriously dangerous) and health officials noted that it hasn’t yet begun to spread widely in New Hampshire. Keep your fingers crossed that the crushing weight of holding up the COVID family reputation keeps BA.2 as floundering as it is.
