The Story

This is our last issue for the 2021-2022 school year!

Are you nostalgic?

Cuz we sure are. Let’s dive right in to some highlights from this year, before we get too weepy and need some tissues.

Where do we start?

Well, back in the beginning of the year we had a little obsession with our favorite virus, Covid-19. We had an update to bring you nearly every week about new variants, mask procedures, and our silly little drama in school. Shoutout to all the Facebook mom’s whose complaints about their precious little children needing to wear masks gave us something to write about!

What else?

We also had our regular sports updates throughout the year. Sports performed pretty well this year, getting back to normal after affected seasons in 2020 and 2021. Who could forget the boy’s soccer team, and their very long no-goal streak. Returning reader’s are already anxious to see how the next fall season works out.

Anything more juicy?

Bedford had it’s fair share of crime this year too. There was that murder at the motel, that had everyone quaking in their boots. Plus a pretty deadly plane crash, as well as that lady who kept her dead mom’s corpse in her home. Yeesh, so much for the Bedford Bubble…

Election drama!

Then as March rolled around we extensively covered the School Board election. RBD writer’s have always been very passionate about the goings on at the bureaucratic level in our town, and we were very excited to cover as well as observe the results of the election! Sometimes it can be a challenge to remain neutral…

A dreary March passed…

And we made it to the other side! Who could forget the departure of our dear Elsie the first week of April. Then we had our traffic pattern, some spring sports coverage and now we’re here.

Here.

Oh my god you guys. We made it! For 75% of the school it was their first normal year of high-school. And as for the other 25%, it was their last. With that in mind, it was an extra tricky one. But we did it. We made it.

The Runaway…

This sure was a rollercoaster year. But we’ll be back before you know it, so enjoy your sun-filled summer!

What to say…

When you aren’t actually out for summer…

While school is winding down for many of us, and we are looking forward to a couple months of freedom, some people’s summer isn’t looking quite as glamorous. Summer school is offered for “Enrichment Education”, “Competency Recovery”, and “Credit Recovery”. Enrichment courses include In Writing (ew) and Personal Finance (also ew). Students are required to take a competency recovery course if they ended the year with an NCY (anything under 55%) in a course. Students are to come into school the week after finals (for 3-5 days) to increase their grade and hopefully get rid of that NCY. However, if they are unsuccessful after 5 days, the NCY becomes permanently ingrained on their transcript. Yikes.

When you move that tassel from right to left…

The Class of 2022 officially graduated last Saturday! The ceremony went quite smoothly and featured a Stranger Things themed speech from Mr. Jozokos (we can say we’ve seen stranger things ha). Mission Statement Award Recipient Lily Mooney gave an empowering speech about being the change you want to see in the world. And Senior Class President Parker Henrichon gave an inspiring speech with a theme of dad jokes – “When does a joke become a dad joke? When it becomes apPARENT!” Needless to say, the audience was amused. The choir performed, the band performed, the graduates walked across the stage. The weather was surprisingly pleasant; that’s to say it wasn’t excruciatingly hot and there was a pleasant breeze. The whole pomp and circumstance was altogether uneventful and actually quite normal, which is a breath of fresh air after the rocky high school experience for the class of 2022. We wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors!

When you aren’t a senior yet…

It’s finals week! For all you Juniors and Underclassmen, we hope you brought your thinking caps, because it’s time to sit those finals. For all students, this will be the first set of final exams that they have to take in high school, as the Junior class didn’t have to because of Covid. So that means for all involved parties, they’ll be figuring it out for the first time. So whether it’s as fun as a project you need to present, or as disgusting as a Chemistry Exam, RBD wishes the best of luck to all you smart cookies out there who are ready to face the test! Don’t forget your extra pencils, and to make sure you know the weird schedule, which is linked here in case you need a reminder. It might be helpful to check out those rules too while you’re at it – like the fact that if you skip without getting VP approval, you get an automatic zero. Just a helpful hint!

Finals week looks a little different than most school weeks.
