The Story
Surprise, surprise! Football is not the only fall sport.
Explain
We have been giving you the football updates every week, and we want to take a break (especially since all we’re doing is winning and it’s getting boring). A lot of teams are in the home-stretch of their seasons, so we have updates and end-of-season predictions.
Boys Soccer
There are five games left in the boys soccer season, and we are currently 10-1. Our biggest game is today against Central, who is undefeated. We have been beating most pretty soundly, one of the exceptions being Hanover-our one loss. We’re going to discount that though because it was the second game of the season, so it obviously does not count. Eight out of our eleven games have been shutouts, and for those we can thank Jacob Statires and Aidan Wishard. Our two goalies have so far only allowed four goals. To put that in perspective, our offense has scored a total of 44 goals so far. One of our most notable offensive contributors is junior Viktor Rodrigues, who moved here from Brazil two years ago. And, no, we are not importing talent. It’s just a coincidence. (Take that, BG!) For the past three years, we have been the regular season champs, but have come nowhere near the championship. If we beat Central today, we will most likely win the regular season. As far as playoffs, Coach Pepper said that returning players are determined that this will be their year.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team is 9-1-1, and hoping for their first championship since 2013. We’ve come in second for the past two years. And no, second is not the best. They have five games left in the season, with today’s game against Central being the only one with any potential to be close. The tie came from last week’s game against Nashua South. Let’s just say, that’s pretty embarrassing. We don’t want to even tell you Nashua South’s record. Our only loss came from Londonderry, who lost to Pinkerton and Portsmouth, both of whom we beat. Yes, we know, it’s confusing. It essentially means that we really do have a chance for that trophy.
Volleyball
We are 10-2 in girls volleyball, with six games left in the season. The team has never won a D1 championship, and our biggest competition this year comes from Nashua North, and Hollis-Brookline, both currently undefeated. The team this year consists of 10 seniors, so we’re not going to think about next year. At all. The team has also been busy in raising money for Breast Cancer research through a bake sale, taking place last Wednesday. They’ve raised $4485 in three years. It’s like a service club mixed with sport-who knew athletes could be so kind?
Golf
Golf championships are this Thursday. Be there-it’s going to be intense. You are not going to believe how fast they are going to be driving those golf carts. We are undefeated, and going into Thursday as the number one seed, as well as the returning champs. Thursday could be Bedford’s fifth championship in a row. CJ Ladue is the returning individual champion, and we’re hoping he repeats.
Field Hockey
Our field hockey team is 2-10. Let that sink in. We have two games left in the season, that we could potentially win. So fingers crossed that this season is 4-10. Does that look a little better? (Please lie.) However, even with two more wins, we would not make it into playoffs. So we will bid adieu right now, rather than saving our goodbyes. Shoutout to Rachel Noble, the goalie, who has been pretty dang impressive with the saves all season long.
Cross Country
The state meet is October 27th, and we will definitely make it, and that’s not just because everyone makes it. Seven athletes from the girls team and seven from the boys team will run at the state meet. At our last two meets, the girls team has placed 7th and 8th out of 10, while the boys didn’t even place. We’re thinking that the girls are doing so well because of Carly Rinko, who, as a sophomore, is one of the best runners in the state.
Bass Fishing
Saving the best for last. Our bass fishing team did not qualify for the championship round, so their season is over. The reason behind it is that the fish we caught did not weigh enough. This seems a little counterintuitive with the whole “anti-obesity” campaign, but we’ll go with it. The team came in 15th out 32 teams in the tournament to qualify. We would also like to point out that there’s something fishy going on with Mr. Guerard, the bass fishing coach, who resigned as the head coach for boys varsity lacrosse after last season to spend more time with his family. Sureee, Mr. Guerard.
The Runaway
Only four of the seven non-football sports have the potential to be the champs or the runner ups. If that’s too depressing for you then go back to football.
What to say…
When you want to spend more time with your mom…
Interested in being a bus driver? Last week, in an email to parents, Mr. Fournier said that their solution to the bus driver shortage fell short, and we are still in desperate need of drivers. We are so desperate that Fournier even provided a link for parents interested in the job. So, mom?
When nothing happened in Bedford this past week…
Let’s turn towards some national issues. There was this whole Supreme Court thing with Ka…vanoo? Vaka? Vanay? Something like that. But, more importantly, this past week was fat bear week. Arguably the most important week of the year. As bears are getting ready for hibernation, they are fattening themselves up, and it’s up to us to judge who’s doing it best. This is better than the Bachelor, trust us. Make sure you vote for the winner today on Facebook!
Things to Know
Just to Keep Track
Here is our updated touchdown tracker after our game with Nashua North, which we won 42-0. Our two highest scorers were Ryan Toscano (well, duh) and Harry LeGoullon with two touchdowns each.
Secret Admirers
Do you think that we, Runaway Bulldog, are just the coolest people ever? That’s a rhetorical question, because of course you do! But don’t worry, you can be cool too. We are always looking for writers, social media coordinators, advertisement coordinators, and literally anything else. Want to be that guy who brings us donuts? We will make room for you. Contact us here.
Fake it ‘Til Ya Make it
This week is spirit week! Be ready to show your spirit, whether it’s real or fake. And, on that off chance that it’s fake, we will help you BS your way through. Tuesday is tropical day, so put on a pair of sunnies before walking out the door. Wednesday is pajama day, so just don’t even get dressed in the morning. Thursday is America day, so wear jeans-they’re blue. And Friday is class color days. You’ve got to rely on your class government to help you with that (and probably buy a $10 t-shirt).
Go with the Glo
And, a quick reminder, homecoming is this Saturday. It’s the first one at BHS to include sports other than football. Girls and boys soccer are playing earlier that day, then football, then the glo dance. Let’s glo!
