The Story

The Fall Season is looking pretty good! Here is our midseason update.

Bass fishing

A devastating loss this past Thursday for the Bass Fishing team. Their flights (competitions) begin at 7:30 a.m. and last until about 2:00 p.m. Wow, that is a lot of time to just sit and wait for fish. We’re very curious as to what they do for entertainment. But the team did not qualify for the championship. So for anyone who doesn’t know how bass fishing works…for everyone, the team caught a lighter amount of fish than other teams.

Boys Soccer

The team is also having a great season. Their record is 5-1-0, with only 2 goals being let in this season, thanks to our goalie, Aidan Wisherd. Matt Flanagan and Victor Rodrigues have been leading the team in scoring. We’re currently in second place, so we feel pretty good about our playoff position.

Cross Country

This past weekend Cross Country attended the 45th annual Manchester Invitational. Bedford did pretty well. The girls team placed fourth behind BG (grr), Champlain Valley (um, who?), and Keene (why were they there?). Junior Carly Rinko placed 14th in New Hampshire! Woohoo! The boys placed 26th and Zach Gamache placed 90th overall. As Beyoncé once bravely said “who run the world?”

Field Hockey

There’s a new coach in town and she’s improved the team. Their record is 1-1-3. The girls have gone into overtime twice, and recently fell to the BG by one point in overtime. Last year, they lost by “like 7…” and didn’t make playoffs. Their single win has been against Merrimack, where freshman Eli Enners scored their two goals. The girls think they’ve got a shot in the playoffs this year. Only 11 teams qualify, and we’re in thirteenth. But it’s early.

Football

Guess what? We’re undefeated again. And no, we don’t care that we’ve only played three teams. There’s been some reports claiming we would have some close games…we just beat Goffstown 48-7. How dare you doubt us, Roger Brown. The scoreboards have been run up by senior captain Mikey Akstin, and a big spotlight has been cast on the sophomore quarterback, Joe Mikol, especially after this past weekend. But if you want specifics, check out our touchdown tracker.

Girls Soccer

Another team who is undefeated. The girls are 7-0, but they play Londonderry tomorrow, the only other undefeated team. Freshman Zoe Santos has only let in 4 goals so far this season and all of their scoring has been fairly spread out, with Mackenzie MacEachern leading the team.

Golf

Golf is pretty strong this year. Like every other freaking year. We feel like that’s all we need to say. We’re in second place behind Pinkerton. And CJ Ladue is very good at hitting the ball the least amount of times.`

Volleyball

The team had some big games this past week with a tough loss against the four-year undefeated Hollis-Brookline on Wednesday. They’re in ninth with a 3-2 record, so it looks like the girls might make it into the playoffs again. But they’ve played five games. Who are we to predict the future?

The Runaway

We’re winning PERIODT…in most sports.

What to say…

When you’re feeling pressure to follow the crowd…

Sounds like crew! Well, kind of. Crew is officially a sport this year. But there’s a “meh” feeling to it. The school provided them with very little funding (but in their defense, the sport is very expensive), and they now have to follow school rules. The school doesn’t even provide them transportation to their practices on the river or regattas. Yes, it doesn’t make much sense. The rowers did want the recognition of being a sport, but they didn’t mind their separation from other sports before. They liked having their own awards night. And even with official recognition, a lot of people still say that they’re not a sport. Twenty-six percent of our Instagram followers said they weren’t a sport. We mean yes, that’s not very big, but it really should be zero. Google said they were a sport, so we’re believing it. The team practices four days a week, and on Saturdays if they don’t have a race.

When you feel like the boneyard is getting old…

Let’s call it Winning-ville. We mean, double meaning, and that’s what Duke does. It’s K-ville down there. Why can’t we do the same thing? BHS Girls Soccer coach Michelle Winning won her 200th game a week and a half ago against Nashua North. Yep, you read that right. 200. That’s more than the US women’s soccer coach, who has 102. And now Winning is at 202. Damn. So far she has led the team in an undefeated season. But they play Londonderry tomorrow, another undefeated team.
