The Story

It’s not just basketball and hockey this time. We’re bringing you a mid-season sports update on all fronts, because who knows what the skiing teams have been up to?

Boys Basketball

We’re not off to a great start. The boy’s basketball team has kind of been taking massive Ls all season. After losing 5 games in a row (yikes), they finally won one game last Saturday, against Timberlane. Still, their record is currently 3-6. If you want to watch them play, their next game is on the 9th, against Manchester Central.

Girls Basketball

Luckily, the girls are making up for the rough time that the boys are having. Aside from the initial loss to BG in their first game, the girl’s basketball team is undefeated, with deciding wins over Trinity, Concord, and Goffstown. They’re also playing tomorrow against Manchester Central.

Boys Hockey

The boys hockey team was also doing great, until last Saturday (dun dun dunnnn). Previously undefeated with a 5-0 record, they lost their first game to Exeter, 5-2. But never fear everyone, the team will have their chance at redemption. Their next game is this Wednesday… at Exeter. Tune in.

Girls Hockey

Apparently, hockey is kind of crushing it on all fronts this year. The girls team has only one Achilles heel- Keene. They are the only team they have lost to this season, so hopefully they can triumph against them at some point. They will be playing against Souhegan on the 10th.

Skiing

Both ski teams have run into a bit of a problem this season- the lack of snow. Fortunately, with the recent snowfall, their luck might be turning around. Recently, nordic was able to hold a meet on the 3rd, and alpine followed them with a meet on the 4th. As far as states goes, alpine has theirs on the 10th and 11th, and nordic is more TBD.

Swimming

The swim team has been holding intersquad meets, and most of the team has qualified for the state meet. Spoiler alert- the girls will probably win. The boys actually have a pretty good shot too, but it’ll be a battle against BG. The meet will be held on February 20th, closing out the swim season.

Gymnastics

You would be surprised as to how difficult it is to find information about gymnastics. However, from what we’ve gathered, the team has had several meets this year, with their most recent one being on January 29th. At that meet, they scored a total of 128 points. It appears that they’re looking pretty good for their state meet on the 13th.

What to Say…

When the lax players look a little bit different…

Let’s rewind. You may remember the school board voting to make helmets mandatory for the girl’s lacrosse team way back in 2019. Last week, a petition to repeal that motion was created, calling for the reversal of the helmet requirement during gameplay. The petition has already received over 400 signatures. To update you on the whole situation, girls lacrosse players say that they want to be the ones to make the choice to wear helmets. Also, no other team in the league has this mandate, and one player even said that the opposing team may be more aggressive towards players if they wore them. Who knew that actually wearing a helmet could be dangerous? On the opposing side, some school board members and parents believe that helmets mean there will be less risk for concussions, overall creating a safer playing environment.

When you’re still confused about the new schedule…

So are most of the teachers and all of the students we’ve talked to. From what we gather, the school board is the only one fighting for the new schedule, which will start on the quickly approaching date of Thursday, February 18th. If you haven’t been paying attention, pretty much everything is changing, except for who you go to school with. Each cohort will have two in person classes and two concurrent classes per day, plus 20-minute prep blocks before the remote classes. A-K goes to school for the morning classes on Monday and Tuesday and in the afternoon on Thursday and Friday, and vice-versa for L-Z. The one thing staying consistent is the Wednesday schedule…for now. Jozokos says they might be adding advisory soon as well.
