Just the facts:

Results: Every individual meet

Schedule: Season is over!!

Championship: 2/9/2019 @ Pinkerton Academy

Post-season Accolades:

At the winter sports awards night, Tara McGadden was awarded the Bulldog (MVP) Award (uh, hello, state All-Around Champion!).  The Sportsmanship Award went to Katie Spencer.

At the New England Championship on March 9th, the team placed 8th, and Tara McGadden was Vault Champion.

Captains for next season: Tara McGadden, Marley Rehm, and Rori Forte

State Championships:

We took second this year with 135.35 points! Second! Number 2! We only lost to Pinkerton(139.25), who’s won for three years in a row. It’s fine. If they have fun crushing everyone, more power to them. The best part? We beat Londonderry (3rd; 129.725), who was predicted to be the team’s toughest competition. We lost to them twice this season.

Sophomore Tara McGadden won the All-Around with 36.6 points, with two first places in the bar and the beam, and two third places in the vault and the floor. So, we had one W.

Season so far:

Meet 5: Bedford vs. Pelham (results not posted yet)

Yes, we’re sad too.

Meet 4: Bedford 120.1 – Londonderry 128.9

The team was a solid second place, and sadly lost (again) to Londonderry. However, the Bedford team beat Spaulding (111.4), Dover (111), Salem (109.65), Goffstown (108.5), and Milford (103.2). Olivia Towey won the all-around with 33 points, beating Ashley Griffin (32.45), who had gotten the best of her in meet 2.

In the individual events, Tara McGadden took the W in the vault with 9.25 points. Towey, who was on fire this meet, came in first in the beam with 9 points, and the floor with 8.4 points, and second in the bars with 6.9 to Londonderry’s Seana Kelly, who had 7.6.

Meet 3: Bedford 131.55 – Pinkerton 137

We once again lost to Pinkerton (remember, last year’s state champs), but finished ahead of Nashua South (116.5), and Nashua South (89.5).  Trinity (29.55) and Derryfield (20.2) each had a single athlete competing. In the all-around rematch between Tara McGadden and Pinkerton’s Isabella Scarpetti, McGadden won with 36.65 points.  Take THAT Astros!

In the individual events, McGadden won the bars with 8.8 points, the beam with 9.2 points, and the vault with 9. 45 points, but came in second in the floor with 9.2 points to Pinkerton’s Scarpetti, who had 9.45.

Meet 2: Bedford 121.35 – Londonderry 121.9

Londonderry (who were second in the state last year) barely squeaked by us, winning by only .55 points.  Both teams had a comfortable margin over the other competing teams — Spaulding (114.4), Dover (109.25), Coe-Brown (90.55), Somersworth (28.85), and Trinity (28.6).

Sadly, Londonderry also edged us out in the all-around, with their top gymnast, Ashley Griffin, winning with 31.6 points over Olivia Towey with 31.25.

In the vault, Lindsey Campbell and Heather Corton finished in a 3-way tie for second with 8.1 points, behind Spaulding’s Sarah Bieniek, who won with 8.3. In the beam, Olivia Bouthot won with 8.2 points, while, in the floor exercise, Sheridan McGadden triumphed with 8.95 points.  And, on the bars, Olivia Towey finished second with 7.1 points behind Spaulding’s Audrey Stuart with 7.5.

Meet 1: Bedford 133 – Pinkerton 140.75

Tough opening meet against last year’s state champs. In the all-around, Bedford’s Tara McGadden came in second with 34.65 points behind Isabella Scarpetti of Pinkerton, who won with 35.95. Sheridan McGadden finished 4th. We’re going to assume that something runs in the family.

In the individual events, Sheridan won the bars (8.6).  The floor exercise was won by Pinkerton’s Zoe Demers (9.25), but Sheridan finished second with 9.15 points and Tara finished third with 9.1.  Tara finished second in the vault with 9.15 points behind Pinkerton’s Audrey Hill, who had 9.25.  All in all, a great night for the McGaddens — who doesn’t love some good sibling competition?

Preview:

The team did not lose too many people last year, and expects to have solid year again. Their top gymnasts are seniors Olivia Towey and Olivia Bouthot, and sophomore Tara McGadden. And, get thistheir biggest competition will be Londonderry. Londonderry! We’re just happy that school has finally found something it’s good at. Our team should be able to beat them this year with a great meet, and hopefully break into the top two, which they have never done before. Also, if you’re looking for school hours, and Nordic (for some reason) does not appeal to you, the gymnastics team does not turn away tall people, even though their average height is 5’3”. So, calling everyone who is 5’4″!
