State Championships:

The girls took first and the boys took second at each of their state meets! The boys were right behind Bishop Guertin. Jessie Rioux, Sydney Berube, Whitney Fitzgerald, Kaitlyn Laurendeau, and Maddie Goldstein qualified for the meet of champions for the girls team, and Turner Brown, Cole Berube, and Cole Rodman qualified for the boys.

The boys won slalom, and came in fourth for giant slalom. We didn’t have any skiiers in the top three for each, but Cole Berube came the closest with a fourth place in slalom and a fifth place in giant slalom.

The girls won both slalom and giant slalom. Sydney Berube took home second place in slalom, and Jessie Rioux took home a third place and a first place in slalom and giant slalom, respectively.

Preview:

Alpine skiing is going to be good this year, because, you know, they’re always good (it’s Bedford, hello?). The girls are returning state champs, and the boys are hoping to take back the state title, since they lost their five year winning streak last year. After finding out about Nordic’s secret plans for snow dominance, we feel like the pressure is on for Alpine to have an above-“meh” season. The girls team will be led (hopefully to victory again) by seniors Whitney Fitzgerald and Kaitlyn Laurendeau, and juniors Sydney Berube, Jessie Rioux, Mykenzie Kyle, and Lauren Byrnes. The top skiiers for the boys are senior Turner Brown and juniors CJ Ladue, and Aidan Wolfinger. And, surprise! Pinkerton and BG are the big competitors for Alpine! Along with Portsmouth and Exeter. The real question is how the heck Portsmouth is good at skiing; we’d expect them to be better at swimming, but that’s just us. In case you were curious (because we were), the skiiers  NEVER get sick of the cowbells — so bring them on. Cowbell it up! Also, there’s just little bit of a family feud between them and Nordic…
