The Story
We’re in the thick of the fall sports season now, so it’s only fair we do some coverage on what’s been going on so far.
How’s Football going?
Ah yes, the most American of all the sports, despite stealing its name from a much more popular international sport. There’s only been two games so far this season. Their first on the 2nd at Nashua North was an embarrassing loss of 7-19. But it seems that the BHS crowd was very motivational last Friday, and they secured a win of 17-0 against Salem. Their next home game isn’t until next Friday, September 23rd, against Goffstown. Make sure to show up and support both the athletes, and the incredible marching band!
And Soccer?
Starting on the more positive side, the girls have not only yet to lose a game, but also yet to let any of their opponents score a goal! There have been 5 resounding victories so far, including triumphant wins over Manchester Memorial (8-0) and Windham (6-0). Their next home game is at 6:00 tomorrow, so make sure to show up, even though we don’t have school.
I’m afraid to ask but… the boys?
Shifting focus to Runaway Bulldog’s absolute favorite punching bag, let’s talk about Boys Soccer. They may have fooled us with that initial win against Central, but it turned out to be false hopes of a victorious season. They proceeded to lose their next two games, before just barely scraping a win (4-3) against Londonderry. Anything is better than that no-goal streak of last year, right? Their next home game is on Thursday at 5:00, so if you’re curious what the ridicule is about, go check it out. Funny how our school parallels the successes and downfalls of the National teams as well, with the women triumphant and the men… well… lacking. Our athletes don’t get paid though…
Anything Else?
Field hockey, like girls soccer, is currently on an undefeated streak, with their next home game on Friday. Cross Country is also going strong with a meet this Saturday. Finally, Volleyball has won both of their games so far, and has two more home games this week, one on Wednesday at 6:30, and one on Friday at 6:45. Don’t forget about the less trafficked sports!
The Runaway
Hope that update satisfies you athletically inclined people. For the less sporty, make sure you support the others! School spirit is an important part of high-school
What to say…
When you’re wondering about tomorrow…
We all know you’re stoked for the day off on Tuesday and that is thanks to the State Primary. If you are below the age of 18…relax, take the day off. If not, go vote! After all that’s what you were looking forward to most when turning 18 right? For any adults out there that have no idea what they’re getting into when voting tomorrow here’s some background info. Starting super basic: the purpose of a primary election is to narrow down or determine the nominees for political parties before the general elections (where they are then elected to offices). We’re sure you’ve all seen yard signs crammed onto the sides of highways and any crack of grass seemingly competing for who’s bigger and brighter, and just in case you weren’t able to catch a glimpse of the names here’s a general rundown of who’s running in Bedford (Democrat & Republican). Incumbent Chris Sununu is up for re-election as governor. Democrat Matthew McLaughlin is running for state senator with a few of his top priorities being reproductive rights (<3) and climate change opposed by Republican Denise Ricciardi. Among 15 candidates from both parties running for State Representative, John Schnellar, a somewhat familiar name here at Runaway, resurfaces…may his reputation precede him. Also for State Rep is incumbent Catherine Rombeau up for re-election. There are a few other minor positions with many more candidates in the running but we’ll let you knock yourselves out reading through those on Tuesday at the BHS gym 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Lastly, make sure to bring your ID and check here if you are registered to vote!
When you need those hours…
As many students know, this Wednesday is the Club Fair during Advisory B. Clubs will be scavenging for new recruits in the gym and commons while innocent students meander along with their friends looking for the possibility of free candy and treats. The LARP (Live Action Role Play) and Armored Combat stations are always a popular attraction during the club fair – most likely due to the adrenaline associated with hitting each other with (fake) weapons. No matter what your interests are, show up to the club fair where there is something for everyone!
Things to Know
If you’re starting to get cold…
We’ve got a fire-drill on Thursday, so don’t be alarmed when people start leaving the building…
If you’re getting anxious to vote…
Even if you’re not voting Tuesday, freshman class officers are up for election during Thursday’s advisory.
